Surviving the Holidays
Can you believe it the Holidays are on us again? Lights, happiness and joy to the world, phew. It’s a special time of year. However, I know some of you are looking forward to the season with fear and trepidation. Here are a few suggestions for surviving the season.
1. Down play your expectations.
A big part of the holiday season is our expectations of what it should be like. We all want peace, love and harmony for this special time of year. However, the warm fuzzy feelings we long for don’t often measure up to reality. Understand that perfection is not what you should be aiming for. Leave some wiggle room in your idea of a perfect holiday should be for detours and mishaps.
2. Don’t overdo it.
Get your rest. Try to stay away from all that stuff that in the end makes you feel blah anyway. Too much of a good thing isn’t a good thing.
This includes trying to be everywhere at once and trying to please the whole world.
3. Have a Budget.
Have a budget and stick to it. Create memories and not credit card bills.
4. Stay Away From The drama.
I know Uncle Lou gets on your nerves but try not to kindle the negative fires this Holiday season. Try, really try to see the best in people and give the gift of yourself at this season.
5. Remember what the season is all about.
Remember this season is not about the gifts or the kids. It is really about Jesus and your faith in Him. Take time with your family and friends to celebrate the real reason we’re doing all of this. Why not take some time out to help those in need this holiday season. Get into the real meaning of Christmas.
6. Create traditions.
Make memories for you and your family. Create holiday traditions that everyone can look forward to each year. Special recipes, music, ceremonies will make the time special and memorable. The memories will stay long after the packages are opened and the wrapping paper is recycled. Make the holiday fun.
7. Be nice to you!
Get your sleep, eat a healthy diet and get outside for some fresh air. The holidays can make you frazzled. Take time for yourself so that you can be energized and survive the rush. You don’t want the only memory you have is that you’re glad it’s all over.
